In our second post celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2022 (#NAW2022) we would like to share another success story with you. Sophie Cameron has found a passion for the pharmacy profession through completing the level 2 Pharmacy support worker apprenticeship with Skills4Pharmacy.

Sophie started as an apprentice at Sharoe Green Pharmacy in 2020. Since then, she has become a senior member of the dispensary team who is experienced in many areas because of the Level 2 pharmacy support worker apprenticeship.

Sophie enjoyed the program and she has now progressed on to the level 3 pharmacy technician apprenticeship which will allow her to become even more skilled and qualified.

Sophie enjoys helping the public and providing person centered care in everything she does. She has particularly enjoyed being able to have a positive impact on people’s lives using the skills she has learnt at Skills4Pharmacy.

It is important to us that our apprentices feel well supported during their apprenticeship and that our tutors give them the motivation to succeed.

Sophie had this to say about Skills4Pharmacy and her apprenticeship training course:

I have recently completed my Level 2 course with Skills4Pharmacy. I felt that this course was very enjoyable throughout as well as having a lot of support from my tutor, as she made learning fun.

She went on to say:

This course helped me gain more knowledge in and out of the pharmacy setting giving me more confidence when dealing with patients and respect for my colleagues. It gave me fundamental knowledge needed to work in a pharmacy so that I can now build on it further.

If I ever needed any help, I could always easily contact my tutor especially if I missed a lesson and they would always make sure I was up to date with all the information. This made me feel well supported during this apprenticeship and gave me motivation to succeed.

After completing the course, it gave me a lot of opportunities such as moving onto a Level 3 course which I have just started now, after my two years of doing this course, I will then qualify as a Pharmacy technician and have my name on the GPHC register, which I have always wanted to do since I started the Level 2 course. I am also excited to continue progressing after the level 3 course

Overall, this has allowed me to be more employable in an industry I enjoy.”

Sophie’s tutor added:

“Sophie has now qualified as a level 2 pharmacy support worker and is currently working towards her level 3 pharmacy technician qualification. During her time as a level 2 apprentice, Sophie balanced completing coursework to a high standard, learning skills both in the workplace and on the weekly sessions and applying this by working full time in a busy community pharmacy.

In this time, she achieved a distinction and two passes at end point assessment.

She is now a competent and valued member of her pharmacy team. I am very happy with how Sophie is progressing after the level 2 apprenticeship and will continue to support her as she works through the level 3 course”.

At Skills4Pharmacy we are incredibly proud of all our students and aim to nurture and develop their knowledge, skills, and behaviours throughout their apprenticeship.

Sophie is another excellent example of what can be achieved by a determined and enthusiastic apprentice. The training provided by Skills4Pharmacy has given her the knowledge, skills, and confidence to meet the expectations within her chosen profession and we are confident she will go on to have a fantastic career in pharmacy.
